During February of 2010, Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Authority hired the planning consultants - - Reynolds, Smith & Hills Inc. to assist with conducting a planning study and to develop a 'Master Plan ' document.

This planning study has included assistance from sixteen (16) volunteers, from across Alcona and Iosco counties. The volunteers have served as Advisory Committee members during this important planning process. They have worked with the Planning Consultant and Airport Staff during efforts which have included evaluating existing conditions involving the airfield, airport terminal, landside access routes, infrastructure and other important facilities at Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport. This thorough inventory and evaluation of existing conditions now serves as the baseline from which plans for future development and growth are being formulated.

The Airport Authority has also made efforts to secure comments, ideas, opinions and feedback from members of the nearby community. A number of advertisements and news articles about the Airport 's master planning efforts have been published in the local news papers. Additionally, the Airport Authority has conducted two open house events. The first open house was conducted on November 10, 2010 for members of the public to review preliminary findings and sketches of proposed development on the Airport. The December 14, 2011 event was conducted for members of the public to then evaluate refined sketches for potential development of the airport - - over the next 20-years.

The Board of Trustees for Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Authority will consider adopting the proposed Master Plan during their January 19, 2012 meeting.
